Thinking about starting the nonprofit? Before you apply for the 501(c)(3), take this course! In this introductory-level workshop, Community Law center Attorney Shana Roth-Gormley will cover all the basics behind starting a nonprofit, including:
- What is a nonprofit, and what can nonprofits do
- How nonprofits differ from for-profit businesses
- Who controls a nonprofit
- Handling nonprofit conflicts of interest and bylaws
- Determining whether starting a nonprofit is the right approach for your goal or project
By the end of the workshop, participants will have a better idea of whether a nonprofit entity structure is right for them.
This course is aimed at those who are thinking about whether to start a nonprofit, while our “How to Start and Maintain a Nonprofit” course covers the nuts and bolts of actually starting and running a nonprofit organization.
About the Presenter
Shana Roth-Gormley, Esq., is Senior Staff Attorney at Community Law Center. Ms. Roth-Gormley has been with the Community Law Center since 2014. Ms. Roth-Gormley has overseen the Pro Bono Program and taught many of Community Law Center’s workshops on nonprofit formation and governance, and vacant and nuisance properties. She also represents nonprofit clients, advocates for systemic change on issues of tax sale and vacant and abandoned properties and serves on the Maryland State Bar Association’s Delivery of Legal Services Section Council. She is a graduate of the UCLA School of Law and a member of the Maryland Bar.
Cost to attend the workshop

Cancellations and Refunds
Refunds will be accepted up to 48 hours before the webinar. If you, or your designee, do not attend the workshop you signed up for, the fee is non-refundable.
