Our Approach

Legal Partners to Neighborhoods and Nonprofits

As we provide our client organizations with free or low-cost legal representation that would otherwise be unattainable, we consider our role to be partners rather than merely service providers.  As community leaders work to improve the health, safety and welfare of their neighborhoods or nonprofit community, they turn to us, and we are able to achieve these goals together more effectively.

Navigating matters with federal, state, and local agencies can become overwhelming without a legal partner.  Our nonprofit clients receive support with critical information, legal advice, and representation.  Our full-service law firm provides a broad range of legal solutions including litigation services, performed by our extensive network of experienced Maryland attorneys—over 600 lawyers strong—as well as our in-house staff attorneys, whose main focus is Baltimore.  We take on an average caseload of one new case per day, 365 days per year.

We walk together with those working hard to answer the needs in their communities.

Our clients not only come to us when there’s a dispute; they are supported by our legal staff in areas of greatest need through low-cost educational workshops, capacity-building training, and brief advice for nonprofits and community leaders.

Beyond our daily work, we also have a history of making change happen through regulatory and policy reform. Our work positions us to see the common threads among Maryland’s neighborhood advocates, resulting in sweeping reforms that can transform entire communities.

Stronger Communities is Our Ultimate Goal

We strive to build long-term partnerships with our clients. Many of our clients continue to return to us as their organizations evolve and they address different issues.  We are always happy to see clients again to address their new legal needs.  As these amazing organizations are supported and strengthened over time, we know the communities they serve are also becoming stronger.
