On the afternoon of Monday, November 10, a three-alarm fire damaged the historic, “Castle” building on Keswick Road. This building houses several businesses and organizations, including Community Law Center.
Please read excerpts from our press release below.

Nov. 11, 2025 (BALTIMORE, MD) – For more than two decades, Community Law Center (CLC) has served Baltimore City neighborhoods from its offices in the historic “Castle” building on Keswick Road in Hampden. CLC staff have hosted countless community workshops, client meetings, and neighborhood gatherings in the Castle building, and treasured going to work in a beautiful, historic space.

“Many days, we remarked on the streams of light from the expansive windows, the detailing in our conference room, and the warmth from knowing the generations of Baltimore’s past did such remarkable work in these same spaces.

Above all, we remain abundantly grateful that there were no injuries from yesterday’s fire, and all staff who were working at CLC and our neighboring office partners were able to leave the building without physical harm. We extend our true appreciation to the quick responding and relentlessly brave Baltimore City Fire Department,” expressed executive director, Amy Petkovsek.

Community Law Center will temporarily relocate staff and office space. In the interim, the nonprofit is prepared to pivot to meet the needs of its clients. The legal team, which has grown this year, is mobile and ready to continue its work on behalf of Maryland’s neighborhoods and nonprofits. Financial challenges are already arising, and there will undoubtably be more ahead.
